Mahindra has issued a new over-the-air (OTA) software update for its best-selling SUV, the Scorpio N, addressing key user-reported issues such as battery drain and voice assistant glitches. The update, released in India in June 2025, is available to all Scorpio N owners via the factory-installed Vi e-SIM, enhancing vehicle functionality without the need for a dealership visit.

Key Fixes and Improvements in the OTA Update

The latest OTA package focuses on resolving several quality-of-life issues for Scorpio N owners, including:

Addressing Battery Drain and Alexa Integration

One of the most significant fixes targets unusual battery drain, a common complaint among owners. Mahindra has also patched the Home Screen Alexa voice assistant, which previously displayed inconsistent behavior, particularly when issuing in-car commands.

Built-In Digital Owner’s Manual

Replacing the third-party app, the new integrated owner’s manual is now embedded within the system interface. This move simplifies access to vehicle information and support, marking a notable step toward smarter in-car usability.

“We’re continuously listening to our customers and fine-tuning their digital ownership experience,” said Rajiv Sharma, Lead Engineer – Connected Vehicle Programs at Mahindra. “This OTA update is a direct result of owner feedback, and it reflects our commitment to smarter and faster problem-solving.”

Installation and Availability

Owners can install the update by parking the vehicle with the engine running and the handbrake engaged. The update is delivered over the Vi e-SIM and takes approximately 35 to 40 minutes to complete. Mahindra recommends ensuring a strong mobile signal before initiating the update.

Scorpio N Sees New Feature Additions in Top Variants

Alongside the OTA release, Mahindra has introduced hardware and cosmetic enhancements to the top-end Z8L variant:

  • Ventilated front seats for improved cabin comfort
  • Auto-dimming IRVM for glare reduction
  • Wireless charging pad with cooling
  • High-gloss center console finish
  • New “Midnight Black” exterior color option

Notably, these upgrades come at no additional cost, reflecting Mahindra’s strategy to increase value across its premium trims.

Strong Market Performance and Future Expansion

Mahindra’s aggressive product and software update cadence comes amid rising demand. In FY2024, the Scorpio lineup—comprising the Classic and Scorpio N—achieved record cumulative sales of 4,59,877 units, the highest annual total for the brand to date.

What’s Next: Scorpio X Pickup in the Pipeline

The company is preparing to expand the Scorpio nameplate further with the Scorpio X, a rugged lifestyle pickup based on the Scorpio N platform. First unveiled as the Global Pik Up concept, the vehicle is expected to launch by 2026.

Powered by Mahindra’s 2.2L diesel engine producing 172 bhp and 400 Nm of torque, the upcoming Scorpio X will be available with manual and automatic transmissions. It will ride on a newly developed ladder-on-frame architecture, designed to be both lighter and more rigid than the previous generation’s platform.

“The Scorpio N’s future-ready platform is enabling a broader family of lifestyle vehicles,” noted Anika Mehta, Auto Industry Analyst at Pune Mobility Forum. “Mahindra is clearly positioning itself to compete in the growing lifestyle utility segment, not just locally, but globally.”

A Look at the Broader Trend

Over-the-air updates are becoming a key differentiator in the Indian automotive landscape, traditionally dominated by hardware-driven enhancements. With global OEMs like Tesla setting the benchmark for connected vehicle experiences, Indian manufacturers like Mahindra are now investing heavily in digital platforms to deliver post-sale upgrades that extend vehicle value and customer satisfaction.

As of 2024, more than 37% of new vehicles sold in India offer OTA update capabilities—up from just 12% in 2021, according to data from ICRA Automotive Research.

Conclusion

Mahindra’s latest OTA rollout for the Scorpio N demonstrates its ongoing commitment to delivering software-driven improvements alongside hardware enhancements. As the brand continues to break sales records and expand its vehicle lineup, smart digital support will play a critical role in sustaining long-term customer loyalty and market relevance.
